Worthy of love

Societal expectations, familial pressures, and even weighty self-imposed beliefs can leave us striving to feel like we may not belong. I’ve heard women speaking of the aching feeling that they are not enough, and it breaks my heart.

I think we all have valley seasons, absolutely. It is impossible to spend much time on this earth and not face adversities of varying degrees. But, we are not defined by these circumstances. We may visit the floor of the canyon, but we are not to live there. God has a greater plan for us!

My message to you this Valentine’s Day is that no matter what accomplishments you have already achieved – or those still on the horizon – whether you feel beautiful in your own skin or truly believe you measure up to those around you, you are worthy of love. You are worthy of love because you are God’s creation and He thoughtfully created you with a loving purpose.

We read in Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV), “For you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Sometimes we can internalize the critical messages and the words spoken over us, or sometimes we lament the lack of words of affirmation that should have been provided. We can let the harsh words that leave a human’s lips swirl around us and leave an imprint on our heart. We can let society make us feel as though we are not smart/beautiful/wealthy/educated enough. To this I say: enough.

If we chase the expectations of humanity, we will not truly grasp what God wants us to understand about eternity.

Friends, God’s everlasting truth and love for you far exceeds anything we experience in an earthly world. And, when we know and receive God’s love, we are better able to show this affection to others.

My prayer for you this Valentine’s Day is that you know you are fully and completely loved by the One who created you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and God has a plan and a purpose for your life. You are a child of God and are so very worthy of love.

Dear God, please let every person reading this post today know that you are who you say you are. And that means we are who you say we are. We are daughters of the King, and you love us and adore us. And we love and adore you. Let your love for us flow through us so we can bless others with your unfailing regard for us as your children. Amen.”
